The European Union's AI Act entered into force on 1 August 2024. It establishes a common regulatory framework for artificial intelligence across EU countries.
The framework takes a risk-based approach. Certain systems face transparency obligations, while high-risk uses are subject to stricter requirements. Entry into force did not make every obligation immediately applicable.
For Kenyan businesses working with European customers, the law is an important development to follow. Whether it applies to a particular business depends on its activities; this briefing is not legal advice and reflects the Commission's announcement on the date shown.
